We need to talk...
It's time to try something different!
We need to discuss our relationship.
Yes, yours and mine! Whose did you think I was referring to!? 🤪
Look, I love writing to you… you’re not just another person I’m emailing on a Tuesday morning. And I like to think I’m not just another email you read (or don’t read or half-read) on a Tuesday.
Truth is though, I highly doubt you need more tips, advice, “value” (more on that later) in that inbox of yours. And if I’m continuing on the honesty train here, I think more tips and tools emails have us all bored to tears.
I think we need to rekindle our spark in our relationship… you know, bring back the life… refresh things - let’s have fun! Get silly! Wild! Crazy! C’mon! 🤪
I think we should just start emailing each other like normal people!
I mean, I’m a normal(ish) person, sittin’ here at my desk, backspacing no less than 6 million times as I type this out to you. You’re a normal(ish) person. You probably have 20 tabs open on your browser, tempting you to take a break from this email and go find something more interesting to read…
So here’s what I’m thinking... let’s try an experiment, just for today!
I’m just going to tell you what’s actually going on: work, life, the beautiful, fun, and boring. Maybe you’ll play along and write me back about what you’re up to, too? Maybe? A girl can hope. 🤞🏻
Two things I’m experimenting with:
Taking one big “swing” a day. I saw an Instagram post recently (Lord knows I didn’t save it to share it with you) encouraging us to shoot for something preposterous or out of reach every day. What’s the worst that could happen? Someone who wasn’t thinking about you anyway says no? Big whoop-dee-doo. So, I decided to do it. I’ve been taking a big swing a day. I’m telling my overthinking brain to “sit down and shut it for a second” while I shoot for the stars, and just go for it!
Coupling the big swing with “one miniscule step”. After taking a big swing, a girl needs a break, you know? So, I’ve been coupling my big action with a micro action moving me in the direction of my goals. Instead of trying to update ALL THE BLOGS ON MY WEBSITE IN ONE DAY. I’m working on one at a time. Taking one step to a project I’m launching. Today, I purchase the domain name, tomorrow, I write a little description of it. Rinse. Repeat. One small step a day.
Two things I’m working on:
I’m the lead creative in a collaboration launching a podcast for a local client. I got to name it, coach them on how to be great hosts, and work with them from initial concept to consistent delivery! Very fun and rewarding!
I’m also working on a TON of boring but necessary, behind-the-scenes stuff in my own business. My Google My Business profile, updating episode titles for my podcast, and improving and updating all 99 blogs on my website. (yawn 🥱)
Two books I’m reading errrr, one I’m reading and one I just read
I’m reading: Fredrik Backman’s My Friends
Just finished: Claire Lombardo’s Same as it Ever Was (I’m LOVING Claire Lombardo right now. No rush, Claire, but I need you to write more novels, ASAP, please!!!!!!!!)

If you’re a fellow book-lover, while I have you… I also just discovered a podcast called Books, Beach & Beyond by Elin Hilderbrand, Tim Talks Books, N Magazine.
They’re not producing anymore, but you can dive into the archives and hear them interview a bunch of the great authors. It’s a backstage pass to the creative process of some of my favorite writers. Sheer ear candy, I tell you. 🍭
On my mind: the joy of experimentation. (hence this weird email)
What I love about experimentation is that you can dip your toes in and answer your “what if” questions:
What if I try this format once…
What if I give it a shot just for today…
What if I hit the button and see how I feel…
It’s not about the outcome or that all things go “as planned” or work perfectly. It’s just about trying stuff. Doing it. Taking action. Instead of endlessly thinking about it.

Welp. That’s all I got on my end.
What’s going on in your world?
What’s something you’ve been overthinking and should just give a whirl?
What’s a big swing you KNOW you wanna’ take?
Or a small step that would start to nudge you in the right direction?
Hit reply or leave a comment below. Seriously, do it.

In this episode, I get into experimentation and “just trying it”. We talk about where this fits into life and business, and how a try-before-you-buy mentality can end up being a winning strategy for success and happiness. 👉🏻 Listen HERE 👈🏻
P.S. Be this the coolest email I’ve ever written, the lamest, or… just another normal Emily email, at least you can rest assured it wasn’t written by AI!

Love the post, and really love the PS re: AI!!! Personally, I'm experimenting with taking a break from big swings and, after 50+ years filled with dozens of big swings + constantly living outside my comfort zone, I'm also experimenting with seeking more time in that coveted comfort zone.
What "big swings" are you taking every day? I'd love to know! Did you read A Man Called Ove? I tried and gave up (I don't remember how far I got). Looking forward to hearing about your project - did you say a blog is involved?
